    Job Description

    Do you thrive on supporting associates with just-in-time training in a fast-moving environment?  If you excel at identifying opportunities, working with Subject Matter Experts in all areas of a business, and developing engaging and clarifying training courses to help people quickly learn and give their best, we’re looking for someone like you.  We are recruiting an energetic professional with in depth instructional design experience to work as one of Surterra’s Instructional Designers. 

    You best fit this role if you are often described with traits that include learner-centered, decisive, discerning, articulate, technologically savvy, agile, organized, and process driven.  The Instructional Designer will design and develop world class learning and practicing experiences. The goal is to facilitate learners in quickly acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

    • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and knowledge transfer
    • Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs
    • State instructional end goals and create content that matches them
    • Develop instructional graphics, learning interfaces and the finished courses
    • Develop short awareness videos and infographics
    • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts
    • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
    • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
    • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, scenarios, role plays, games, etc.)
    • Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments
    • Maintain project documentation and course folders


    • Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology
    • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
    • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
    • Basic HTML programming knowledge
    • Solid knowledge of course development software (we use Articulate 360, Camtasia, Vyond, EdApp)
    • Familiarity with at least one Learning Management System (we use Litmos)
    • Visual design skills (Adobe Creative Cloud) and ability to storyboard
    • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
    • Skilled at working with SMEs within all levels of an organization to uncover needs and drive clarity of learning solutions

    Additional Information


    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
    • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office Constantly operates a computer.
    • Ability to travel and work in off-hours.
    • Ability to fly to other offices and states in the middle of the work week.
    • The person in this position frequently communicates with other employees/customers and with external partners, vendors, and media.
